Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)–Funded Research

CSIR-IGIB offers Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) partners an opportunity to support impactful, socially relevant research and capacity-building initiatives aligned with national priorities and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). CSR-funded projects can range from infrastructure creation and public health initiatives to environmental genomics and outreach programmes.

Key Features of CSR-Funded Research at CSIR-IGIB

Alignment with CSR Legal Framework & SDGs

  • Projects funded under CSR are selected to align with permissible CSR activities under Schedule VII (health, environment, education, sustainable development, etc.) and support relevant UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  • Funding may be used for research, infrastructure creation, specialized facilities, capacity building, public-health initiatives, environment-focused R&D, outreach, incubation, or socially relevant technology development.

Institutional Eligibility & Transparency

  • CSIR (and hence IGIB) is registered under the Societies Registration Act, and eligible under section 12A / 10(23C) (IV) of Income-Tax provisions — making it formally compliant for receiving CSR grants from corporates.
  • CSIR's CSR policy mandates transparent acceptance, accounting and utilization of funds, with defined guidelines for grant management, reporting, and donor acknowledgment.

  • This flexibility allows corporates to choose projects that best align with their CSR objectives and societal impact goals.

Reporting, Impact Monitoring & Corporate Visibility

  • CSIR-IGIB commits to providing periodic progress and financial reports to funding corporate, supporting their CSR reporting compliance.
  • Corporates get visibility and recognition — their contribution is acknowledged in annual reports, media or impact-communication, enabling them to showcase concrete social-science impact.

No Conflict with Commercial or Regulatory Obligations

The CSIR CSR policy ensures that CSIR's scientific independence, integrity, and public-good orientation are maintained. Corporate grants are accepted only when they do not compromise CSIR's mandate or administration, and clear boundaries regarding influence, data ownership, and public transparency are maintained.
