Portrait of Souvik Maiti

Souvik Maiti studies unusual nucleic acid structures and their biological roles, particularly in non-coding RNA. His research focuses on targeting these structures using chemically engineered oligonucleotides and small molecules.

Specific Interests

  • RNA G-quadruplexes and their role in gene expression regulation
  • Small molecule modulators of miRNA function as therapeutic leads

His research has shown that RNA G-quadruplex motifs can enhance translation, such as in the 5' UTR of TGFB2. Additionally, his lab demonstrated the repurposing of streptomycin to suppress oncogenic miRNA (miR-21), highlighting new therapeutic possibilities.
