Portrait of Jitendra Narayan

Within the broad domain of bioinformatics and computational biology, Jitendra Narayan's lab mainly focuses on chromosomal breakpoints, horizontal transfer of genes and genome evolution. His lab has developed computational pipelines and algorithms to harness biological data from genomes, epigenomes, transcriptomes, and proteomes.

Specific Interests

  • Horizontal gene transfer (HGT)
  • Genome Evolution
  • DNA breaks and repair

His lab works on bdelloid rotifers, which are tolerant to extreme stresses including radiation, desiccation, and freezing. Understanding their survival mechanisms helps reveal how organisms repair genomes under stress. The lab is assembling rotifer genomes at chromosome level to study adaptation, development, and evolution.
