Decision Unit-2: Disease Biology
Uncovering molecular and cellular mechanisms behind diseases of major relevance to human health.
Research Theme
The Disease Biology Decision Unit focuses on uncovering the molecular and cellular mechanisms behind diseases of major relevance to human health. The unit leverages advanced single-cell genomics, proteomics and metabolomics coupled to focused assays and disease model systems ranging from cells, organoids to fish and mouse, to uncover disease mechanisms and potential biomarkers.
One of the key research areas includes skin biology and melanoma, aiming to identify novel therapeutic targets. Cohort studies complement these focused research efforts, furthering the understanding of cardiovascular and metabolic disorders.
3D skin models and animal systems are developed to study homeostasis and intercellular communications in disorders, with an aim to foster understanding of the mechanisms towards future development of interventions. The unit's integrative approach bridges fundamental molecular science with translational potential, contributing to precision diagnostics and therapeutic strategies.
